Situated on France’s gorgeous French Riviera, Nice is the fifth most populous city in France and the capital of the Alpes Maritimes Département. While most activities focus on the outdoors and weather, Nice is home to plenty of historical sites and museums. For instance, The Matisse and Chagall museum are located just a short bus ride from the city centre. 


With Nice’s Mediterranean location and close proximity to Italy, many of the restaurants are known for their seafood and Italian cuisine. The port has a wonderful collection of restaurants, many of which have outdoor tables facing the harbour. While it may be more touristy, a walk into the Old Town will bring you to a number of restaurants lining the Cours Saleya, where fresh seafood is often on display outside. In regards to signature, must-have dishes, moules frites (mussels and fries) and the salade niçoise are very popular and specific to the region. 

To adhere to its laid-back atmosphere, Nice is a much more tranquil alternative to Cannes and Monaco — both of which are known for their extravagant parties. The Old Town is known for more laid-back bars, but there are also places if you’re in the mood for a night out of dancing. For those seeking high-class, VIP treatment, the High Club is the perfect place to be, with parties lasting all night with DJs and well-known artists; For those looking for a casual drink, Les Distilleries Idéales is an excellent contrast.


Every year, Nice hosts the esteemed Nice Jazz Festival. This festival ranks alongside the Hague and Montreux festivals as one of the major European jazz events. More than 45,000 people from around the world come to visit and more than 500 musicians perform in 8 days. The Nice Jazz festival is an eclectic music event with featuring several genres, ranging from African roots to urban funk.

Aside from the music festivals that frequent the city, you can find live music events all around the city of nearly every genre. Whether you want to laze about in french cafes or sing along to classic rock songs, you can find it all in Nice.


French is primarily spoken throughout the city, but there is a large English community in the area. You can often find free language exchanges at the pubs, so you can learn French and meet locals, all at the same time! As a part of the cultural discovery program, language classes can also be arranged.
